XI International Russian-Kazakh Symposium "Coal Chemistry and Ecology of Kuzbass" started in Kemerovo

The XI International Russian-Kazakh Symposium 'Coal Chemistry and Ecology in Kuzbass' was organised by the Federal Research Centre for Coal and Coal Chemistry SB RAS (Russia) and the Research Institute for the Problems of Burnage (Kazakhstan).

This year the event is dedicated to the forthcoming 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The meetings are held in a hybrid format. The three-day business programme will feature 50 face-to-face presentations.

Leading scientists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kyzyl, Irkutsk and other cities of Russia have joined the forum. A special status of the event is given by participation of eight RAS academicians in discussion platforms, three of them are Global Energy Laureates: Alexey Kontorovich, Sergey Alexeyenko and Zinfer Ismagilov.

The first day of the symposium was also attended by Irina Ganieva, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kuzbass:

"The Symposium solves the most important tasks for the ISTP, a programme that covers all areas of the economy and life of the industrial region. The goal is wide-ranging, so the most important condition for its successful resolution is the involvement of the whole scientific community of KuZbass".

The international level of the Symposium is illustrated by participation of scientists from the People's Republic of China: representatives of the Chinese-Russian Technopark (Changchun), scientific and industrial organisations of China, scientists from Korea, Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

The Symposium was opened by Valentin Parmon, Chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the RAS. In his welcome address the academician defined two priority tasks facing the region: coal processing and ecology. The participants of the Symposium paid special attention to the implementation of ISTP "Clean Coal - Green Kuzbass".

In the plenary session of the second day of the scientific forum with a presentation by the Director of ANO "Scientific-Educational Center "KUZbass". Natalya Petrik presented the projects included in the first Russian approved complex scientific and technological program of a complete cycle of innovation "Clean Coal - Green KuZbass". She told about the project "Carbon Landfill KuZbass". The purpose of which is to conduct comprehensive monitoring of carbon deposition and emission, and to develop innovative technologies of carbon sequestration. In a global sense, it is the development of a national system for the issuing and trading of carbon units.

The forum will be concluded tomorrow, 6 July.
